Derwent, “Drawn to Perfection”

By now I am sure it is no secret that I have found a few “favorite” brands in my quest to stock my studio with quality supplies.

I have been happy to find that Derwent more than surpasses my expectations in an art supply company in both quality products, and in customer service.

When I first started out piecing together my studio a few years ago, my Allen purchased the Derwent watercolor pencil set, count of 72 pencils. Unfortunately, one of the pencils was damaged upon arrival. I decided to reach out to the company for a replacement via email and an associate was quick to politely respond with a replacement in the mail that day.

Around the time of their release, I requested a sample of Inktense pencils from Derwent’s website, www.DerwentArt.com, and received an Outliner pencil in the mail promptly. Though one dark pencil only gave me a slight idea of the capabilities of these pencils overall, their versatility was too intriguing to pass up. What looked like color pencil when dry on the paper turns into INK (not to be confused with paint) when water is applied and is permanent when dry.

Each of the sets of pencils I have ordered has unique and diverse qualities, ranging from amateur artist quality supplies which do not fall far below the bar in the more experienced artist materials available, some with watercolor properties, others with the properties of oil paints if the artist chooses. The ability to use many of Derwent’s products wet or dry doubles the supply collection in my studio and broadens my range of experience.

While some may argue about price and the availability of lower-cost artistic products, I have yet to find any comparable quality artistic utensils which have such variety in use. Derwent has surpassed expectations in client/company relations and in product. Worth every penny.
