Derwent Carry-All Bag

Derwent Carry-All Pencil Case

I needed a container to hold my specialty pencil sets that I have been receiving in metal tins, which can get damaged easily and over time begin to warp from use and so will not close or hold pencils properly. I researched vigorously and most of the pouches I found either held an exceedingly small pencil count in relation to what I require or allowed the pencils to move freely inside them, which often leads to broken pencil tips and cores. Ultimately, I was able to find this Derwent Canvas Carry-All, which fulfills my needs for pencil storage and mobility. This is a quality product, well stitched with no loose threads and durable canvas with (2) binder-style rings. There is a large zippered storage pouch on the inside built into the bag which holds my blending stumps, pencil extenders, pencil sharpener, and other sketching tools at the front. Generically this carry-all comes with three removable pages with 11 elastic spaces which hold two pencils per space on each side of the page, giving each page capacity of 44 pencils (22 per side). I was able to order additional pages on Amazon, which come in 2-packs, so I currently have 5 pages in mine. There is space in the back inside the cover for a small sketchbook. The case has a two-zipper closing design and the handles Velcro together. There is a small pouch on the front with a centered Velcro fastening.

Overall, I love this bag, but there are some minor setbacks for me, so I only give it a 4-star rating. First, when the pages are full, there is nothing between the pencils when the case is closed, so during transportation the pencils rub. To rectify this issue, I have placed the thin protective foam that came over my watercolor pencil set in a metal tin between the pages where my pencils currently rub (my bag is not yet full), and I will have to order some more foam for the other pages in the future. Second, the first and last pages rub the inside of the bag’s covers, which has led to chipped and broken pencil tips on those pages, and pencil marks inside the covers. Finally, the elastic on the pages hold the pencils securely, however when fully loaded the pages warped, and I am not sure how that will affect storage once the bag is full.
